Elecrow ThinkNode M9 is a standalone LoRa terminal that runs MeshCore firmware and features a QWERTY keyboard, color display, GPS, LoRa connectivity, and a 2,300mAh battery, making it suitable for outdoor and emergency communication.
The device is built around an ESP32-S3R8 and a Semtech LR1110 LoRa module supporting US915 and EU868 frequencies, while the esp32-s3 adds Wi-Fi 4 and Bluetooth 5.0/BLE connectivity. Additionally, it features a 2.4-inch 240 × 320 TFT LCD, a 37-key physical QWERTY keyboard, GPS/GNSS support, plus a magnetic compass for navigation and location sharing. Other features include a USB-C port for charging and programming, RTC, buzzer, built-in antennas, and a 2,300mAh/3.8V Li-Po battery rated for up to 2–3 days in standby. The M9 targets outdoor exploration, emergency and disaster communication, remote operations, scientific research, and offline community or privacy-focused communication.

The company says the terminal comes with MeshCore firmware pre-installed, but at the time of writing, I could not find the ThinkNode M9 listed on the MeshCore web flasher, but that’s probably because support was just merged a few days ago. For custom firmware development, the ESP32-S3 board can be programmed using C/C++ or MicroPython via the ESP-IDF and Arduino IDE, and supports the LVGL library for the display. However, at the time of writing, there’s neither source code (GitHub repo) nor a wiki for the new M9 device.
The device features separate built-in antennas for Wi-Fi/Bluetooth, LoRa, and GPS, strategically placed to maintain good signal strength without external antennas. Its 2,300mAh battery provides around 2 to 3 days of standby time; additionally, there are power-saving features that help extend battery life during outdoor trips, emergencies, and other off-grid use.
The concept of a standalone LoRa communicator with a built-in keyboard and display is not new, and we have previously written about similar devices like the LILYGO T-Deck series, which includes the LILYGO T-Deck, T-Deck Plus, and T-Deck Pro, all with an ESP32-S3, a LoRa transceiver, a BlackBerry-style QWERTY keyboard, and a trackball. On top of that, Elecrow has also released ThinkNode M1, based on the nRF52840, and the ThinkNode M2, based on the ESP32-S3. But neither model features a physical keyboard and requires a Bluetooth connection to a smartphone for text input.
So, it looks like the ThinkNode M9 builds on these earlier designs by adding a built-in keyboard, making it a fully standalone LoRa messaging terminal without requiring a smartphone for text input.
The ThinkNode M9 MeshCore communication terminal is currently available on the Elecrow store for $74.90, where you can choose between either the 915 MHz or 868 MHz version.
