RAKwireless has just launched the WisGate Connect Router RAK7392 (not to be confused with the older WisGate Connect RAK7391), an industrial-grade edge router and gateway built around Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4/5 (CM4/CM5). The system features three Gigabit Ethernet ports, one 2.5GbE port, wireless expansion via a mini PCIe slot, and WisBlock connectors for sensors and I/O modules.
The gateway is designed for industrial IoT applications such as edge computing, VPN, Modbus-to-MQTT conversion, and LoRaWAN packet forwarding, eliminating the need for multiple boards and USB adapters for complex deployments.

On the software side, RAKwireless provides RAKPiOS, a custom fork of Raspberry Pi OS that comes pre-configured with all necessary device drivers, security enhancements, and a pre-installed Docker environment. Network connectivity is handled by NetworkManager, making it easy to configure static IPs, Wi-Fi credentials, or cellular APNs via nmcli or standard connection files.
The company also provides hardware and software documentation for the RAK7392, which includes the datasheet with hardware details and pinouts, a quick-start guide for flashing RAKPiOS and configuring Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and cellular connections, and a services guide with Docker templates for LoRaWAN packet forwarders, ChirpStack, The Things Stack, Grafana, and InfluxDB. The documentation also lists compatible CM4/CM5 modules and mPCIe expansion cards. It’s worth noting that the RAK7392 has three GbE ports and one 2.5GbE port. Of those three, one GbE port connects directly to the CM4, while the other three Ethernet ports and two USB 3.0 ports share the CM4’s single PCIe Gen 2 lane through a PCIe switch. As a result, the ports cannot all reach their maximum speeds at the same time. RAKwireless reports around 1.8–2.0 Gbps on the 2.5GbE port and more than 4 Gbps of combined throughput across all four Ethernet ports.
There are already plenty of Raspberry Pi CM4/CM5-powered industrial gateways and routers supporting LoRaWAN connectivity (often as an option), including the AAEON SRG-CM4 IoT gateway with dual Gigabit Ethernet and industrial serial/DI/DO interfaces, the Seeed Studio reComputer R1025-10 DIN-rail edge IoT controller, the Waveshare CM4-IO-POE-4G-Box industrial system with CAN/RS232/RS485 and optional cellular connectivity, and the EDATEC ED-GWL2110 outdoor gateway, among others.

The WisGate Connect Router RAK7392 is sold for $535 on AliExpress or the RAKwireless store for a complete unit with a Raspberry Pi CM4 Compute Module. The exact RAM and storage configuration for the router is not clearly mentioned, so you need to contact the company for more details. RAKwireless also mentions that the hardware is designed to work with the CM5, but there’s no CM5 purchase option for now.
